Great piece. It made me feel like I was there with the description, and I liked how you went beyond just providing details on what happened in the actual match move wise but referenced the crowd a lot too. Read like a fan sitting ringside describing what unfolded at a house show of years gone by.

What a cool comment, thank you! Especially at a house show, the crowd and their interactions with the wrestlers are SUCH a huge part of it all.

You’re welcome. I enjoyed your writing. I just checked out your substack. Do you have any plans to cover more shows in Japan from that same perspective? I like Noah a lot and would like to see a similar piece on one of their shows like you did on the WWE house show.

Pre-COVID I used to go to NJPW shows on the regular but fell out of the habit! If my life calms down a little more I'd love to go to domestic Japanese shows some more...

Love this! Wow, that little girl sure must have had a set of lungs on her! And the photo of Dom and Sami, blurred, with Dom in the corner is reminiscent of Francis Bacon's study of a seated pope:

Fantastic blow-by-blow! I love being let into a night with no cameras!

Confession: the tiny little girl did not actually have the loudest voice, except perhaps in Cody’s heart. I have a feeling no matter how loud people scream at the end of these shows, he’s already picked out the adorable urchin who is going to get his belt. And I’ve now laughed so hard at that Bacon painting—yes, that’s just how Dom looked! Why does that pope look so rocked?
