Kevin’s character is on a fascinating arc now, where there’s a constantly expanding ripple effect from his implacable (and understandable) hatred of Roman Reigns. Still seething from the years of hell Reigns put him through, he’s unable to tolerate Cody shaking his hand and having even a fleeting alliance with him.
From there, he ends up attacking Randy (who he loved!), because Randy allied with Cody who allied with Roman.
Anything that isn’t a straight repudiation of Roman is an unforgivable sin to Kevin now, and it just keeps expanding the sphere of his enemies—anyone who aligns themselves with Randy will earn Kevin’s hatred, because Randy allied with Cody who allied with Roman. It’s an endless spiral of fury, an infinite piling-up of enemies.
And what of his oldest friend, his former tag partner, Sami Zayn? Sami, who now has shaken Cody’s hand in friendship…
Sami, who has shown up to help the Bloodline, who’s clearly remembering his time with them fondly?
Well, as long as Sami stays on Raw and away from Smackdown and Kevin’s continually-expanding list of enemies, I’m sure things will be fine.
*touches earpiece* Wait, I am receiving an update…
*swallows hard* Well, I’m sure it’ll be fine! I thought Kevin was being set up by Randy and I seem to have been wrong… maybe he’ll be distracted by his vendettas against Randy and Cody and not notice Sami in town patching things up with the Unforgivable Enemy! Maybe…
I agree, I like the extra layers this is adding to Kevin Owens. It's very blurred in a good way. He has a reasoning behind what he's doing, whether one agrees or not, and I think that kind of stuff when presented well draws fans in even deeper to a persona.
